The World of Taliveera
The world as it can be seen now, is very different from what the world was 1200 years ago. There were many creatures and races that were known and likely there were many more that were yet to be known. Land was abundant, and there were little to no wars. Aside from a group who called themselves the Shogunate. They were a mostly human nation that enslaved nearly any other race they came across. And their population simply couldn't sustain itself on the small amount of land that they possessed. So naturally, they needed to expand. Their only way of expansion was north into the burgeoning Kingdom of Easthaven. And so that is exactly what they did, winning battle after battle until the King of Easthaven asked the Heroes for their assistance against the Shogunate. They agreed.
So they joined the battle, defeating many of the Shogunate's captains and generals. But still they kept advancing, taking more and more land. Until one fateful day when a rogue group abducted the King and held him for ransom in a stolen fortress. The Heroes lead a desperate campaign to rescue him, but somehow the King was killed during their assault on the stolen fortress. The Shogunate saw this as a perfect opportunity to attack, but they weren't prepared for what they would be met with; a Folk named Cosmo.
Cosmo was a very powerful magic user. Who had surrendered to the officers that came to take East Haven after showing them a very pretty gem. Little did they know, that this would be their undoing... This pretty gem just so happened to be an incredibly powerful artifact. One that was used to devastating effects when he was brought to the Shogun Katsumo Takaeda. The artifact was used as a mana bomb. But pumping so much magic into that item had many unintended side effects that Cosmo would never know about as he detonated it in a blast of intense magical energies that could be felt around the world.
The world became cracked and unbalanced. Earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, and tsunamis began to ravage the world. Many people, races, and creatures were dying. Nobody knew what was happening or how to stop it. Until an old wizard came to the Heroes to inform them of an item that might end the destruction happening all around the world. Eager to save the world they lived on, the Heroes jumped at the chance.
Fighting through an abandoned tunnel system, dodging traps and solving riddles, they eventually came upon the item. The item itself was a puzzle that they needed to put together. They put their heads together, and eventually solved it right there in the tunnels. But little did they know, it was all a ruse created by an Arch-Lich named Joy-Rot. And the old wizard was nothing more than a pawn of the lich. That item placed the Heroes into a magical stasis that drew from the power of the Heroes themselves. And as a testament to their incredible powers, they were held in this magical stasis for nearly 1200 years... Even though it only seemed like a few seconds that felt like Deja Vu to them.
Many things had changed while they were gone.
During their absence, the world continued to seemingly destroy itself. Land rising and falling back into the oceans. Entire continents sinking into the seas. Most had little to no warning as to when this would happen. But some were able to build great ark like ships to harbor their people from a watery grave. Even then, those great ships had to weather the incredible storms that came ever frequently. If they survived the storms, they weren't finished fighting for their lives just yet... All of this commotion woke giant Krakkens from their hibernation in the depths. The awoke hungry.
Barring their deaths in the storms or from being eaten by a Krakken, a few made it to the continent of Drithien. A human dominated land, a place where Easthaven once ruled. But now there were many Lords, Barons, Dukes, Counts and Kings all vying for power. Refugees were received warmly at first, but were given very little actual help. They were soon seen as a nuisance and a drain on their economy. Especially if they weren't Human...
A fervor swept through these nations and lands that it was the non Humans that were the cause of all the recent troubles. And at first, they were only mistreated by being ignored or denied services and food. But soon it became violent and there was a Great Purge that lasted nearly 20 years as every non-Human was hunted down and killed.
For several hundred years, they believed that they were the only race living. And on their continent, they were correct. They reigned supreme... Until they began to feel yet another side effect of the magical disaster that happened hundreds of years ago.
Changes began to happen to the people. Thus creating the new races of Taliveera...
